Sexual violence is a form of harassment and is unacceptable behaviour of a sexual nature. It can include: sexual harassment; sexual violence; intimate partner violence; sexual assault; grooming; coercion or bullying with sexual elements; sexual invitations and demands; comments; non-verbal communication; creation of atmospheres of discomfort; and promised resources or advancement in exchange for sexual access.

Domestic abuse (or relationship abuse) is defined as an incident or pattern of incidents of controlling, coercive, threatening, degrading or violent behaviour. Most cases of domestic abuse are perpetrated by a partner or ex-partner, but the term also applies to abuse carried out by a family member or carer.

Are you in immediate danger? If you are in immediate danger or seriously injured, you can contact the emergency services on 999 (or 112 from a mobile phone).

The University’s Campus Safety Team can also be contacted on 01782 733999 (internal 33999).

Students and staff can report an incident using the University’s Report + Support system. You can choose to do this anonymously or you can request support from an advisor. If you choose to talk to an advisor they will be able to talk through the options and support available to you, in confidence.

Students who have experienced sexual violence, domestic abuse or harassment, you can access support from a range of specialist teams within the University, including our Sexual Violence Liaison Officers and Domestic Abuse Liaison Officers. These teams can provide advice and support, can facilitate referrals to additional services (with your consent), and can help you to explore your reporting options if this is something you would like to do. Staff members who experience this behaviour can contact the Human Resources team.
